MONTEZUMA
...Montezuma ( little town ) E-mail

The little town of Montezuma is situated on the eastern coats (inside) of the Nicoya Pininsula about 25 Kilometers from the tip and about 7kms from Cóbano, the commercial center for the southern Nicoyapeninsula.

It's a no stop-sign, one intersection town, and everything is within walking distance. The air is so clear that on most days, you can easily see across the gulf to Jacó and the mountains beyond - a distance of 50-60 kms.

When the swell is from the south there is good surfing on the beaches north of Montezuma at Playa Grande, at the Montezuma rivermouth and at Los Cedros, about 3 kilometers south. At Playa Cocalito, a 2 hours walk up north from Montezuma there is a waterfall from the clifftop to the beach, which makes a great horsebacktrip. A series of scenic waterfalls just south of MOntezuma, are just a 20 min. hike up the river.

Panga boats can take you deep sea fishing, or to Tortuga Island for snorkeling or across the gulf by water taxi for a 1 hour run to Jacó from Montezuma, is also popular with tourists.
On Saturday mornings there is a well-established market in the park opposite the church, where you can purchase organic veggies, local products, souvenirs and much more. Bring you guitar or drum if you like and jam with the locals.

Dinins in Montezuma is quite diverse with several pizza shops and more than a dozen restaurants ranging from Tico "sodas" to gourmet with prices and flavors to suit every pocket.
There are several boutiques and tour offices to help book you on all the tours available.

Night life is happening at Chicos Bar and in the Hotel Montezuma with mixed music. There are salsa dance events from time to time but techno parties are rare these days in Montezuma and one must visit Santa Teresa for this type of event. Thursdays usually are raggae nights at Chicos bar.

Hotel accommodations are varied and everyone can find something to suite her/his purse from beach camping and backpacker hostels to luxury-on-the-beach resorts.
